On the Beattie Trail

Kathy Whipple and Lindy Schuller from the USA are descendants of the Beattie family of Ballysavage. It is always good to welcome home members of the Donegore diaspora.

An ancestor, William Beattie, visited Donegore in 1873 and later wrote a unique memoir of how we used to be.

Kathy and Lindy were to be accompanied by George and Marcy Beattie, but George could not travel for medical reasons. We hope that they will be able visit us soon.

Kathy and Lindy stayed at Wynfield House which, rather appropriately, is close to ancestral Beattie lands.

They met with relatives David and Ian Beattie who, assisted by Billy Gawn, were informative about Beattie family history. We were able to show Kathy and Lindy something of Northern Ireland. This included two special interests for them – a Genealogy Conference in Ballymoney and the Irish linen centre in Lisburn.

Kathy and Lindy enjoyed Sunday Worship in the church of their ancestors, First Donegore.
